@mk that done, I had to look up how to create more (than 2) #workspaces - very easy, but not a…

I am now able to generate the intended locale - but on reboot it disappears again to make place for the incorrect one generated by mintlocale; have not yet figured out how/where this has been made persistent :( #mint #locale

off to my #hammock now: good night gute Nacht !tzaf !fediverse! #tomorrow mor #networking and tweaking #Mint on Dennis

quite disappointed that Linux Mint (LMDE) repos do not have Phil Harvey's ExifTool (though they do have a large set of graphics software). #Mint #FAIL #exiftool

good night gute Nacht !tzaf !fediverse! and sweet dreams, all of you :)#tomorrow I'll build up Dennis' new #Mint some more re-installing the software I need (and that isn't installed out of the box yet).

It took me a long time to find out why I didn't have the option in my Mint/Cinnamon to shade/roll up a window with the mouse scroll wheel - it turns out that LMDE has still Cinnamon 2.0 while that is a feature in Cinnamon 2.2... I'm sure it will come, but I'll just have to wait :( #Mint #Cinnamon

@mk interesting... grub seems to look for a file in /grub2 but /brub2 doesn't exist, while that file does exist in /boot/grub. Does Grub understand symlinks? Or do I need to edit the grub config? #Mint !grrr #grubgrumble

@mk 'Welcome to GRUB! error: file... not found' grub rescue> (blink blink). So, we're one step further. Let's finish dinner first! :( #Mint

@mk this time (with partition flagged as 'boot' and specified Grub to be installed in /dev/sda1 instead of the MBR (/dev/sda) installation finished! And there is a grub.cfg file which wasn't there after the last attempt. So, I'll try booting from the hard disk now... #Mint #crossersfinged

@mk nope - it actually was MBR already; flagged sda1 as "boot" and now running installation again... :( #Mint

hmm, it seems I may have to do the install all over again after using GParted to explicitly create an MBR partition table instead of GPT - thought I had that, and only removed existing partitions :( So, on to installation take 4! Damn M$ and its UEFI !grrr #Mint

partitioning is done - now for a nice !beer while intsallation is running... #Mint

OK, here we go: installing Linux Mint Debian Edition / Cinnamon on Dennis, take 3... wish me luck! !linux #Mint

OK, after a lot of reading (reaching better understanding of the why of different partition schemes, which is/was still a hazy area for me in !linux) I've decoded on a partitioning scheme for Dennis. Now, first boot the Mint live DVD to use its GParted to clean up the HD, so there are no partitions left... #Mint
